Do you heard that some malware/spyware that's been intruding Smart Phones..?


Its the Spyware PEGASUS, developed by the Israeli Cyberarms Firm, NSO Group. Upon clicking a malicious link it automatically gets access to your device. Recently the Congress has announced that Priyanka Gandhi's whatsapp has been hacked and also Tejaswi a TV actress, she also faced the same issue upon clicking a spam link.


This spyware is capable of :

  • Reading text messages
  • Tracking calls
  • Collecting passwords
  • Tracing the location
  • Access to microphone and Camera

It can only be installed on certain versions of iOS and Android operating systems.However, Apple fixed the bug in its latest updates for iOS platform. It can also gather information from Apps like:

  • WhatsApp
  • Telegram
  • Skype
  • and more..


Vulnerabilities:

Lookout provided details of the three vulnerabilities:

CVE-2016-4655: Information leak in Kernel – A kernel base mapping vulnerability that leaks information to the attacker allowing them to calculate the kernel’s location in memory.

CVE-2016-4656: Kernel Memory corruption leads to Jailbreak – 32 and 64 bit iOS kernel-level vulnerabilities that allow the attacker to secretly jailbreak the device and install surveillance software - details in reference.

CVE-2016-4657: Memory corruption in the Webkit – A vulnerability in the Safari WebKit that allows the attacker to compromise the device when the user clicks on a link.


TO AVOID ATTACKS FROM THESE KIND OF SPYWARE:

  • Do not click on spam links that you have received.
  • When you get a link from any person you know first ask them about what the link actually contains.
  • Keep your Device and Applications updated.
  • Use safe browsers and don't allow any special permissions that are not required.
  • Use VPN if you are a longtime web surfer.
